When Ms. Phatsaphone Phandanouvong joined the Empowered M&E Manager Program, she was stepping into unknown territory. Without prior experience in the development sector, she wasn’t sure if she belonged. Her part-time work as a teacher had offered glimpses into community impact, but she often felt her true potential was hidden, kept quiet in environments where her ideas weren’t heard or valued.

She told us, “I felt like I had skills inside me, but I didn’t have the space to express them. I was afraid to apply for jobs I truly wanted.”
That all began to change when she entered our program.
At first, Phatsaphone struggled with some of the concepts. But instead of feeling left behind, she found herself surrounded by a learning community that was welcoming, engaging, and supportive. She felt safe to ask questions and explore new ideas without fear of judgment. The classroom became a space where everyone learned together—and grew together.

“I felt included. I felt heard. And for the first time in a long time, I felt hopeful,” she shared.
Through this experience, Phatsaphone discovered not only new skills, but also a renewed sense of courage. She’s now ready to take bold steps—changing her career, seeking meaningful impact, and contributing to a better society.
Her journey reminds us that sometimes, all it takes is a safe, empowering space to unlock what’s already within.
